Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese writer, blogger and anti-corruption activist, who reported on political events in Malta. In particular, she focused on investigative journalism, reporting on government corruption, nepotism, patronage, allegations of money laundering, links between Malta's online gambling industry and organised crime, Malta's citizenship-by-investment scheme, and payments from the government of Azerbaijan.

Howard Wilkinson is a British whistleblower whose actions helped to illuminate the 2018 Danske Bank money laundering scandal. Wilkinson uncovered that a Danske Bank branch located in Estonia had been involved in the suspected laundering of up to $235 billion dollars of illicit funds.

International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) was an independent international body charged with investigating and prosecuting serious crime in Guatemala.  Their objective was to investigate the existence of illicit security forces and clandestine organizations that commit crimes that affect the fundamental human rights of the citizens of Guatemala, and identify the illegal group structures (including links between state officials and organized crime), activities, modes of operation and sources of financing.
